Nazareth College and Career Prep Welcomes the Poise Foundation!

Friday, March 10, 2017

Students at Nazareth College and Career Prep were recently given the opportunity to pitch to members of the Poise Foundation on why they should receive a grant to help them fund their upcoming Historic Black College and Universities (HBCU) tour on April 7th.

Today, the Nazareth College and Career Prep students received their grant for $4000 from members of the Poise Foundation followed by a breakfast with the members. The Poise Foundation offers scholarships and grants to African American students in the Pittsburgh Region to help grow their ability to become self-sustaining. The grant will be used by the students to attend the NEED HBCU tour, where they will visit thirteen colleges in the northern and southern US during Spring Break.

The students’  reason for wanting to attend the NEED HBCU tour ranged from being the first person in their family to attend college, to making their parents proud.  To quote one of the recipients, “I hear that there are so many successful black people that come from HBCUs and how they have made life long connections and friends.”  Each student also addressed how this experience would better enable him/her to be successful in their careers while giving back to their communities.
