PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (6/14/17) – For Pittsburgh high school students seeking a personalized education, there’s an option other than costly private schools and over-burdened magnet and charter school lotteries. Having successfully sponsored an elementary, high school and university in Philadelphia for the past 50 years The Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth have expanded their educational ministry by establishing Nazareth Prep in Pittsburgh.
Nazareth Prep is an innovative, independent Catholic high school that offers Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)-focused education to bright students regardless of their means. Though the application deadline for charter and magnet schools is long past, Nazareth Prep is still accepting applications for Fall 2017. Further information and the application form are available here: https://www.hfa-pgh.org/admissions/apply?wssl=1

While many students in the Pittsburgh public school system would benefit from more individual attention and guidance, the options traditionally available to them are insufficient to meet the demand. There aren’t enough spots in magnet and charter schools for all interested students, and typical private schools are financially out of reach for many.
Few families know that there is another option, a private high school where an exceptional education is accessible to a diverse student body. Nazareth Prep welcomes students who have a positive attitude and are eager to learn and participate. The staff at Holy Family Academy will help each student chart their own, unique path to success.
At Nazareth Prep, tuition is tailored to each family’s income and can be paid in installments over the course of the year. Currently, 100 percent of Nazareth Prep students receive financial aid and no student is turned away due to lack of funds. Most families pay between $50 and $200 per month. The portion of a student’s tuition not paid by their family is underwritten by donors and internship partners through tax credits and other contributions.
Starting freshman year, each Nazareth Prep student spends one day per week interning with a Pittsburgh business or organization, learning real-world workplace skills, practicing professional interaction and cultivating relationships with community decision-makers. These internships are provided by more than 60 of Pittsburgh’s top employers, including UPMC, PNC Bank, United Way and Pittsburgh Technology Council.
In addition to the internship program, which is the only one of its kind in the region, Nazareth Prep provides a uniquely enriching education through its small class sizes, its low student to teacher ratio, and its dedication to creating a personalized path for each student, from freshman year all the way to college, career, trade, or military service.
About Nazareth Prep: Nazareth Prep is an independent Catholic high school that provides an affordable, innovative education focused on college and career readiness. The Academy partners with families and uses evidence-based practices to equip each student for success. Through a rigorous yet personalized college preparatory program and unique internship program, Academy students build skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
