Eighty four hard working students from Nazareth College and Career Prep received an early Christmas present last night at Ross Park Mall.

The students, who earned a place on the honor roll or were close to honor roll, were treated to a shopping spree at Champ's Sports. Each student received a $200 gift card to the store, which was delivered by Pittsburgh Steeler Antonio Brown. The gift cards were provided by the Steelers, United Way and Champs Sports.

Despite his torn calf muscle, Brown was all smiles as he interacted with the NCCP students. “It’s all about how you handle adversity,” said Brown. “If you play the game long enough you will experience adversity. You have to keep the right mentality. You have to hold true to your word. I made a commitment to the kids. I could have not been here, but I wanted to be here and share the experience and be hands on. It’s not the end of the world. I am still so blessed.”

“The fact that he is staying true to a commitment that he had to do this, even in the face of injury, shows that he is an amazing role model to our students,” said Lisa Abel-Palmieri, Head of School and Chief Learning Officer for Holy Family. “He showed resilience and servant leadership, two of the Nazareth College and Career Prep mindsets we seek to build in students. What he is able to do is help our students feel and look good to match the effort they put into their grades and internship programs.”

The Nazareth College and Career Prep Internship program partners with over 100 local businesses and non-profits to offer our students the chance to utilize and develop their skills and interests in a workplace environment. Our corporate partners work with NCCP students to enhance their talents while providing assistance to offset the cost of tuition.
