Essential Functions: The Theology Teacher will show evidence of thoughtful engagement in the Catholic intellectual tradition. The Catholic Intellectual Tradition encompasses the diverse range of scholarly contributions made within the Catholic Church and its broader sphere of influence, spanning theology, philosophy, literature, art, history, and more. It's a tradition that values faith, reason, the search for truth, social justice, and the common good. 

The teacher engages students through active instruction, creates lesson plans, assigns and assesses students’ homework, oversees student behavior and engagement inside the classroom, communicates with families, and helps students grow and understand their faith.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Offer dynamic, engaging, and student-centered pedagogy utilizing up-to-date expertise in Religion and the best pedagogical practices in Religion.

  • Provides academic subject instruction by preparing lesson plans, activities, projects, and assignments that empower students to engage with course content intellectually while inviting them to journey deeper into a relationship with God and their faith.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, current educational research, and technological tools to address student learning styles and achieve meaningful, measurable outcomes by following the designed lesson plan.

  • Develop an understanding of the charism and values of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth to teach and lead within this framework.

  • Actively establishes and maintains proper student supervision to ensure students enjoy a safe, orderly, effective, and productive environment.

  • Diligently supervises students in hallways before, after, and between classes, in the cafeteria, in bus areas, and during special events to ensure safety and security.

  • Organizes daily class time to ensure that instruction is completed within the allotted period; develops weekly lessons with appropriate instructional materials; provides clear and detailed plans for a substitute teacher in case of absence.

  • Maintains fair, accurate, and timely grading policies, procedures, and attendance.

  • Regularly checks email and updates web pages as needed using the technology system provided by the school. Grade papers, assignments, and assessments promptly and accurately.

  • Develop and organize retreats, worship services, and other activities to support faith development.

  • Communicate regularly with students and parents about schedules, assignments, events, and individual student needs. Meet with parents during parent-teacher conferences throughout the school year.

  • Evaluate each student's progress in theological knowledge; maintain accurate records; prepare, administer, score, and document test results to assess student progress; prepare progress reports and report cards.

  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters, including social media and online platforms.

  • Maintains and engages in professional development, adheres to industry standards, and exemplifies professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership. Collaborates and cooperates with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.

  • Participates in all required in-service training meetings and workshops, as well as in faculty meetings.

  • Performs other duties assigned by the Head of School or the President.

Additional Conditions of Employment:
Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, have a deep knowledge of the Catholic social teaching, and agree to live by the tenets of the Catholic faith, including in lifestyle and on personal social media.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology or its equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.

  • PA teaching certification preferred.

  • Three or more years of teaching experience is preferred.

  • Must provide Act 33/34 and FBI clearances and a PA driver’s license.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Other Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children from urban settings.

  • Understands the different stages of child and youth development and uses appropriate skills to engage effectively with students.

  • Commitment to student success and academic achievement.

  • The ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience.

  • Good writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students and teachers.

  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality, credibility, integrity, and self-confidence.

Pay Range: $45,000-60,000 per year
